Still Life in Environment

I differentiate these paintings from regular still-life. These paintings go beyond the traditional table imagery to more environmental with rugs, walls, pictures, etc.

"Orange Still-Life with Floral Wallpaper"

Oil on Canvas

6' X 4.5'

This painting is a result of taking a step back and re-focusing on: What Makes a Still-Life painting?

“White Birch Trees"

Oil on Canvas

6' X 4'

I wanted to create a painting of an environment that was one color, blue.  But accent with one color, in this case orange

“Remembrance"

Oil on Canvas

6' X 4'

This painting takes an old print from the 1920's and creates a theme around it incorporating the colors and the design elements of that period.

"Je suis le fruit de la terre"

Oil on Canvas

6' X 4'

This painting was influenced by Magritte.  In French it states, "I am the fruit of the earth" and on the tablecloth, it says "I am not the fruit of the earth" also in French.  I wanted to create something more than a painting therefore, the red thread sewing the apple hangs down from the painting onto the floor space.

"Welcome"

Oil On Canvas with Shoes and Welcome Mat

7' X 5'

This painting is of a corner within a room that includes the table a wall hanging, rug and 3 pairs to shoes, 2 men's and 1 women’s pair.  The rug and shoes have been coated with medium and then painted.

"Full Moon Quarter Moon"

Oil on Canvas

6' X 4"

The focus of this painting is the full moon scene through the window and the two-quarter moons that are formed by the coffee cup sitting on the table.

"Checkered"

Oil on Canvas

6' X 4'

The objective of this painting is to play off the detailed and elaborate tablecloth and wallpaper against the simplicity and whiteness of the apple and the white dinner plate.

“Still Life w/ Hammer & Nails”

Oil On Canvas with Rug

7' X 5.5'

It's an examination of a room setting with a rug and a still-life image hung on the table. My goal was to produce a monochromatic painting that features two vibrantly colored objects that serve as a unifying element.  One of my favorite paintings.

"Reflection"

Oil on Canvas

9' by 5'

This painting examines mirrors, ancient photographs, clocks, diaries, glasses, and reflecting objects.

"From Egg to Death"

Oil on Canvas

7' by 5'

Black and white painting with interacting patterns and designs. Only color occurs in the two main elements egg and bird.

"Le Leche"

Oil on Canvas

7' by 5'

Another black and white painting with a red ball image and the red string and scissors on the floor.

"Letters Home"

Oil on Canvas

This still life tryptic is a result of the difficulty I had writing home. The writing on the wall is made with a marker.

"The Educaters"

Oil on Canvas with Books

5.5' X 8'

Another tryptic with a look at the elements of book eduction. First are the books we read for pleasure-comic, fantasy, and erotica.  Second is educational books and third novels and literature.
